Hey. I’m Phil.
I’m a psychotherapist born and raised in New York City. I help people better understand their minds and actively pursue what they need to break from self-defeating patterns.
Over the years, I’ve become especially passionate about working through poor self-image, social anxiety, and pornography addiction. One of my favorite things about this work is the moment when someone realizes that these conditions are totally manageable—just with the right direction.
To put it simply, my work focuses on improving mental health by bringing awareness to thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and how you can respond differently to depression and anxiety. From there, we work through the root causes of your stress.
My clients describe me as humorous, direct, warm, and honest. I believe that a therapist should never withhold their insight, and I always balance my conversations between affirming and challenging. Kindness towards oneself and others are always key.
Feel free to look around my website and reach out if you think we’d be a good fit. I’m always happy to touch base.
My approach
My goal for every client is for them to gain awareness about themselves, their challenges, and their needs, and then act in new ways to build healthier habits.
To do this, my approach takes from several evidence-based practices and ideas.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. To develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and acting by identifying and challenging distorted and unhelpful thoughts.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. To develop your set of simple, effective, and reliable coping skills for managing intense feelings, improving relationships, building mindfulness, and increasing distress tolerance.
Mindfulness. To develop your ability in observing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in real-time and without harsh self-judgment.
Motivational Interviewing. Along the way, to always remain collaborative and true to the goals and values that feel right to you.
Self-Compassion. To develop a more honest and compassionate understanding of yourself and the reasons behind those self-defeating behaviors, free from shame and guilt.
Neuroplasticity. Your brain’s amazing ability to physically rewire itself and adapt upon challenges and new experiences.
